//Walk a Staatsbosbeheer route

//A collection of 50 signs to map the user: EXPATS

//Mapping of the user

We all found a lot of pictures for the 200 sign assignment and we figured that there were a lot of assumptions that weren't true. We looked deeper in this and divided all the pictures in expectations vs reality. We also asked other international students about their life, what are they doing on a day?
We've put all this information into 2 diagrams. One about time and one about expectation vs reality.
To research the system I walked a Staatsbosbeheer route close to my parents house in Twente. I'm used to walking so I thought it wasn't going to be something new, but it was. We saw a lot of places we didn't see before. Some weird trees, a deer, people that photographed birds, information signs and a lot of other nature lovers.

//Mapping of the system

We found it interesting to map the system in the same way as the user, in a clock. So we can connect them both at the end easily. We looked at the day in the live of a Staatsbosbeheer route. We found different routes you can walk during different times of the day or year. We collected this also in a clock.
//Interfaces

During the class of Gabrielle we all had to find 35 interfaces. If you press on the picture below you go to our Miropage. When we all had 35 interfaces we collected them also in a clock, in the middle you see interfaces that have a lot of users and around the orange circle the ones that have less.

Your presentation was well organised, prepared and eloquent.For the analysis and empathic understanding of your chosen user (international students) you used the constitution of your own group (two Dutch-nativeandtwointernationalstudents) as a way to compare and discuss the different personal perspectives.
This leads to a knolling in which the subjective experience informed by the cultural background of the international student is leading in identifying the user. The diary of daily-live snapshots is an interesting method to continue in the next phase. The possibilities to unravel what this cultural background consists of can be a powerful perspective on an interface.You did an ‘empirical’ research by visually document in ga route of the ‘Staatbosbebeer’. Which-again-leads to personal and subjective insights, and by mapping them in this way it makes the subjective part of the understanding.

As part of this research phase, you explored ‘the clock’ as the visual and conceptual metaphor. Here we want to point out the possibilities of subjectivity for the interface design. Think of: Lineair vs non-lineair time, real time vs experienced time, Chronos and Kairos, seasons and zodiacs. Consider also that the change of time and seasons, involves rituals and ceremonies that are cultural, spiritual and/or religious (pagan) driven.Could Staatbosbeheer becoming more inclusive by using this diversity of cultural ceremonies?
